Head of Commercial Finance

Our client is looking for a commercially-minded finance professional to join our growing team in a newly created Head of Commercial Finance role. This is your opportunity to bring a strong commercial lens into a high-impact finance function, working closely with senior leaders and shaping strategic decisions across the business.

About the Role
-No direct reports initially, but you’ll work closely with the Financial Controller’s team to upskill and develop their commercial capability
-Cover for the CFO during absences
-Influence and support senior stakeholders, including the Private Client Director
-Lead and support M&A activity, commercial strategy, and decision-making
-Present insights at EMT, SteerCo, and Board meetings
-Opportunity for long-term growth and exposure to leadership responsibilities
 
Key Accountabilities (% of Role)

30% – Lead financial evaluation of commercial strategies, scenario modelling, and risk/return analysis
10% – Trusted adviser to the CFO, Financial Controller, and EMT, guiding commercial decisions
10% – Own revenue and cost forecasting for strategic initiatives, including M&A activity
10% – Evaluate revenue and profitability by segment, proposition, and channel, recommending improvements
20% – Lead financial aspects of M&A, shaping deal strategy, supporting negotiations, and overseeing due diligence
10% – Maintain commercial financial controls, processes, and compliance with regulations
5% – Support development of finance team members, driving continuous improvement
5% – Interact with auditors and wider leadership on commercial finance matters
 
About you
-Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience
-Experience in SME or high-growth businesses preferred
-Confident, proactive, and commercially minded
-Able to challenge constructively and influence senior stakeholders
-Strong communicator and presenter across all mediums (face-to-face, virtual, written, phone)
-Competent in Microsoft Office and client databases
-Excellent planning, organisation, and diary management skills
